What health coaching is not?

Health coaches are not doctors, dieticians, counsellors or nutritional therapists. We cannot prescribe medication or make diagnoses. However, I have 25 years of physiotherapy training and experience and will use a combination of health coaching and my physiotherapy knowledge to inform how I work. My health coaching qualification included a nutrition coaching component.

How long are the sessions?

Initially the session times can vary but will be approximately an hour. If down the line, you require top up sessions, these may be shorter according to need.

How many sessions does it take to achieve my goals?

I would recommend a commitment of at least 5 sessions which may take around 3 months. Consistent and lasting behaviour change takes time and commitment, and we need the chance to address any challenges that arise as you start to make changes.

Will you tell me what to do?

No, health coaching is client led. My aim is to empower you, the client to make and stick to their own decisions and whilst I may give advice and make suggestions, it will always be following the lead of the client.

What happens if I don´t find the sessions helpful?

Whilst we ask for a commitment of a minimum of 5 sessions, if at any time you feel that Health coaching is not right for you, or I am not the right coach for you, then I can recommend you a different coach or healthcare practitioner and you can stop our sessions (and I will refund you any unused sessions – should I take this out????).

Is this therapy?

Health coaching is not therapy. We are trained in Motivational Interviewing and use aspects of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) alongside a number of behaviour change methods, but health coaches are not counsellors or psychologists.

Can you prescribe me medication?

No, you will need to speak to your doctor for any prescription medication.
